In most cases, you should keep click tracking enabled. This lets you see in Aivie which contacts clicked a link in your SMS. Disable it if unchanged links, data protection, or keeping the SMS as short as possible is more important.
What does click tracking do?
When click tracking is enabled, Aivie replaces the original link with a personal tracking link. When it’s clicked, Aivie records the contact and then redirects them to the desired page.
This allows you to analyze clicks per SMS, identify the interest of individual contacts, trigger follow-up actions in campaigns, and compare different SMS variants.
What does “Disable click tracking” mean?
The setting is phrased as a negation:
- No: Click tracking is enabled.
- Yes: Click tracking is disabled.
You can find the setting under Settings > Configuration > Text Message Settings. It generally applies to SMS sending in your Aivie installation.
When should I keep tracking enabled?
Keep click tracking enabled if you send marketing SMS with links and want to measure the success of your campaigns. This is our recommendation for newsletters, offers, event invitations, and automated follow-ups.
When should I disable it?
Disabling it can make sense if the original link should remain visible unchanged, you don’t need personal click analysis, or you send purely transactional messages without marketing analysis.
Length can also play a role: a tracking link can make the SMS longer and may result in additional billable SMS parts.
Does tracking affect costs?
A tracking link can be longer than the original link. This can cause a message to exceed the maximum length of an SMS part and be billed as multiple SMS messages.
So, before a larger campaign, send a test SMS. Check the received link, how it displays, and the number of SMS parts billed by the provider.
What do I need to consider regarding data protection?
With click tracking, it is stored which contact clicked a link and when. This analysis should be covered in your privacy policy. If you don’t need this personal analysis, you can disable tracking.

Summary
For marketing SMS, we recommend keeping click tracking enabled. To do so, set Disable click tracking to No. Disable it if you don’t need click analysis or want to send unchanged links that are as short as possible.
