How do I send an SMS with Aivie?

With Aivie, you can send personalized SMS automatically via campaigns or directly to a segment. For delivery, you connect Aivie with F24/eCall, Twilio, or a custom SMS provider via a webhook.

How does SMS delivery work in general?

You create the SMS content in Aivie and then determine which contacts will receive the message. Aivie personalizes the text and passes the mobile phone number and content to the configured SMS provider. The provider then delivers the message via the mobile network.

For delivery to work, the contact needs a number in the Mobile Phone or Phone field. We recommend the international format with country code, for example +41791234567. You can find details in the FAQ “To which numbers are SMS sent?”.

Create SMS in Aivie

  1. Open Channels > Text Messages.
  2. Create a new SMS and give it an internal name.
  3. Choose whether it is a segment SMS or a template SMS.
  4. Write the text. You can personalize the message with tokens like {contactfield=firstname}.
  5. Publish the SMS.

You can send a segment SMS to the selected segments. You use a template SMS in a campaign with the Send SMS action.

Why don’t I see a send button?

If no send button is displayed for a segment SMS, often no valid SMS provider is selected as the default transport.

  1. Open Settings in the top right.
  2. Go to Configuration > Text Message Settings.
  3. Under Select default transport to use, select the correctly configured provider, for example eCall SMS, Webhook, or Twilio.
  4. Save the configuration and open the SMS again.

For a segment SMS, you will then find the send function in the dropdown to the right of Edit. Also check whether a contact segment is assigned to the SMS and whether your user has the necessary permissions.

Which SMS providers does Aivie support?

F24/eCall

eCall by F24 Switzerland is a Swiss business messaging platform. It is particularly suitable for companies that prefer a Swiss provider, local support, and a professional SMS infrastructure.

For the connection, you need an eCall account with activated API and the corresponding access credentials. In addition, the desired sender is configured. After that, Aivie can send SMS directly via the Swiss gateway.

Webhook

With a webhook, you can connect your own SMS provider. Aivie sends the phone number, message text, and required contact data to a defined HTTPS address. Your system or automation service then passes the message to the provider.

This option is suitable if you already use an SMS provider or need custom delivery logic. Authentication, error handling, and logging must be considered in the integration.

Twilio

Twilio is an international communications provider with extensive global coverage. For the connection, you need a Twilio account, the Account SID, the Auth Token, and a sender number enabled for SMS.

Twilio is particularly suitable for international campaigns. If data location is important for your company, you should check the data processing and involved providers in advance.

What happens if a contact replies with STOP?

Contacts can unsubscribe from SMS delivery by replying with STOP. As soon as Aivie receives this reply, the contact is blocked for the SMS channel and will not receive any further SMS campaigns.

For this to work, the SMS provider must report incoming replies back to Aivie. You also need a sender number that can receive SMS. With a purely alphabetic sender like “Aivie,” recipients usually cannot reply.

With F24/eCall, a number capable of receiving must be used and the feedback to Aivie must be configured. Twilio recognizes common unsubscribe terms like STOP and blocks further messages. If the reply is also transmitted to Aivie, the block is also stored with the contact in Aivie.

With a custom webhook integration, the connected system must recognize STOP replies itself and report the unsubscribe back to Aivie. Without this feedback, Aivie does not know that the contact has unsubscribed.

We recommend including a brief note in marketing SMS such as: “No more SMS: Reply with STOP.”

What does SMS delivery cost?

Delivery costs are charged by the selected SMS provider and are not automatically included in the Aivie subscription. Prices vary depending on the recipient country, mobile network, sender, and number of SMS parts.

Keep SMS as short as possible. Long texts, emojis, and certain special characters can cause a message to be split into multiple billable SMS.

What do I need to consider legally?

Only send marketing SMS to contacts for whom you have appropriate consent or another permissible basis. Also consider the unsubscribe options and requirements of the provider and the respective recipient country.
