Which numbers receive SMS messages?

Aivie considers a contact eligible for SMS sending as soon as a number is present in the Mobile Phone or Phone field. Whether the message can be delivered as an SMS or is handled differently then depends on the chosen provider and its settings.

Which phone numbers does Aivie consider?

Aivie checks the two standard fields for a contact:

  • Mobile Phone with the field alias mobile
  • Phone with the field alias phone

As soon as at least one of these fields contains a number, the contact is generally considered reachable for SMS. The number should be complete and stored in international format, for example +41791234567.

What happens with a landline number?

The Phone field can also contain a landline number. Aivie cannot reliably determine from the field name whether the stored number can receive SMS messages. Therefore, the configured SMS provider handles further processing.

Depending on the provider and configuration, a message may be rejected, reported as undeliverable, or delivered via an alternative channel.

How does F24/eCall handle landline numbers?

F24/eCall offers a function that allows a message to be transmitted as a voice message to a phone number that is not SMS-capable. The text is read aloud and delivered as an automated call.

This function can be activated or deactivated in the settings. If you only want to send SMS to mobile phones, you should deactivate the voice message function and consistently store mobile phone numbers in the Mobile Phone field.

What data maintenance do we recommend?

  • Store mobile phone numbers in the Mobile Phone field.
  • Store landline numbers in the Phone field.
  • Enter phone numbers in international format with country code.
  • Test with different number types before a larger mailing.
  • Check with the provider whether alternative delivery methods, such as voice messages, are activated.

Summary

A contact is considered SMS-capable in Aivie if a number is present in the Mobile Phone or Phone field. Whether the number can receive SMS and how a landline number is handled is determined by the provider. With F24/eCall, a voice message can alternatively be delivered if this function is activated.
