You connect Aivie Ad Sync to your ad account, Facebook Page, Instagram account and Meta Pixel via a Meta System User Access Token.
Why you should connect Aivie with Meta
With Aivie Ad Sync, you can connect your Meta marketing activities directly to Aivie. This includes, among other things:
- Create Meta Custom Audiences
- Manage campaigns, ad sets and ads
- Retrieve posts from Instagram
- Analyse reach, views, saved posts and other metrics
- Send conversion events server-side to the Meta Pixel
Access can also be restricted precisely to the accounts you need. Aivie only gets access to the Meta assets that you explicitly assign to the System User.
Important: Treat the Access Token like a password. Don’t share it by email and don’t show it in screenshots.
What do you need for the setup?
You need:
- Access to Meta Business Settings
- A Meta app for your company
- A Meta ad account
- A Facebook Page
- A professional Instagram account
- A Meta Pixel or a dataset
- Your Instagram account must be connected to your Facebook Page
All of these elements must be assigned to the same Meta Business Portfolio.
1. Create a Meta app
Create a new Meta app at developers.facebook.com/apps.
Info: You don’t need to set up the Facebook Login for Business product as a login method. The app is only needed to create the System User Access Token.
- Give the app a name
- Set the privacy policy URL
- Optionally, you can also add an icon and other details
- Publish the app (no review is required for this)
2. Enable use cases
In your Meta app dashboard, open Use cases and select:
- Create & manage ads with Marketing API
- Manage everything on your Page
- Manage messaging & content on Instagram
2.1 Customize Manage messaging & content on Instagram
- Then click Customize. Switch to the settings for: API setup with Facebook Login
- Add all required content permissions
- This step is important. Only the second option allows Aivie to retrieve metrics such as reach, views, saved posts and shared content.

– Add instagram_manage_insights:
3. Create a System User and assign access
Open Meta Business Settings.
3.1 Create System User
Go to Accounts → System Users and create a new System User, for example with the name Aivie Ad Sync.
Select Employee as the role. The System User should not be set up as an administrator for the entire company.
Assign Assets
Then assign the following assets to it with full Manage access:
- Facebook Page
- Ad account
- Instagram Account (didn’t work, need to log in)
- Meta Pixel or dataset
Meta now shows the Pixel under Datasets. Enable Manage events dataset there.
Assign App
Accounts → Apps → Select App and assign the ‘Administrator’ role to the system user for the app. If no system user exists yet, create one first, see previous step.
With a lower role, the error message “You do not have permission to request this scope” may appear when creating the token, as the following permissions require extended access.
This keeps the System User a restricted Employee within the company, but gives it the necessary permissions for the selected app and the explicitly assigned assets.
4. Create an Access Token
For the System User, select Generate Token and then select your Meta app.
Enable these permissions:
ads_managementads_readbusiness_managementpages_show_listpages_read_engagementinstagram_basicinstagram_manage_insights
If instagram_business_manage_insights is not displayed, check the Instagram configuration from step 2.
Create the token and copy it immediately. Meta only shows it in full once.
5. Store the token in Aivie
In Aivie, open the Ad Sync plugin.
Paste the token into the Meta System User Access Token field and save the plugin.
6. Select Meta accounts in Aivie
In Aivie, open: Configuration → Ad Sync
Select the following entries there:
- Meta ad account
- Meta Business
- Instagram Business Account
- Meta Page
- Meta Pixel
The selection fields are automatically populated with the available accounts. If you change the ad account or the Facebook Page, Aivie automatically updates the dependent selection fields.
