From the variables (tokens) the correct values are deposited by your contacts when sending. For example, {contactfield.firstname} then becomes Robert.
Since no contact is “selected” in the preview and in the test emails, the variables are replaced with square brackets ([]). If this has worked, it can be assumed that it will also work in the correct shipping.
I.e. {contactfield.firstname} then becomes [First Name]
