What happens if a personalized e-mail is sent, but the contact is only stored with the e-mail address?

If a personalized email (e.g. address with first name) is sent and the contact is only stored with the email address in Aivie, the placeholders for the missing data, such as first name or surname, remain empty. This leads to an incomplete form of address, e.g. “Hello ,” instead of “Hello Adrian,”.

To avoid this, you can set up a fallback option in Aivie that inserts a different value such as “friend” or “hello” by default if the first name or last name is missing.

How do I set up a fallback in Aivie?

  1. Open email: Go to the email you want to edit.
  2. Use variable: Set the variable, e.g. for the first name {contactfield=firstname}.
  3. Add fallback: If the first name is missing, “friend” will then be displayed and the email will start with “Hello friend,” for example. Use this extended syntax to define a fallback value:
    Hallo {contactfield=firstname|Freund}
  4. Save and test: Test the email to make sure the fallback works.

This method ensures that your emails always have a complete and friendly address, even if not all the data is available in the recipient’s profile.
